iPhone Duo India Price and Everything Apple Announced
The foldable iPhone costs ₹2,99,900 in India. Everything Apple announced at the September 2026 event, and what the India pricing really works out to.
Apple announced a foldable iPhone yesterday. In India it costs ₹2,99,900.
Every site has the specs by now. The number that nobody is doing the arithmetic on is the second one, so that's most of what's below.
iPhone Duo
Not the Ultra and not the Fold, which is what everyone had assumed. Book-style, opening like a small notebook. Apple's claim that matters most: opened, it's the thinnest iPhone ever made.
- Displays
- 5.4-inch outer, 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR. About 50 percent more screen than an iPhone 18 Pro Max. ProMotion and Always On, 3000 nits peak.
- Front camera
- Hidden under the inner display. It disappears when it isn't being used, so there's no notch and no cutout in the big screen.
- Build
- Grade 5 titanium, a hinge with more than a hundred components, IP68. A nano-texture finish that Apple says reduces glare and minimises how visible the crease is.
- Chip and modem
- A20 Pro, plus C2, Apple's second in-house cellular modem, now with mmWave in the US.
- Cameras
- 48MP Fusion main with an integrated 2x telephoto, 48MP ultra wide, Center Stage front camera that shoots landscape without turning the phone.
- Battery
- Up to 31 hours of video on the inner screen, 44 on the outer. Vapour chamber and a dual-battery layout.
- Unlock
- Touch ID in the side button. Face ID is gone.
- Software
- Split View, which puts two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time.
- Price
- $1,999 in the US. ₹2,99,900 in India. Pre-orders 16 October, ships 23 October.
Two things there are more interesting than the fold itself. The camera under the screen is the first time Apple has shipped one, after years of insisting the sensors wouldn't allow it. And Split View means iOS finally admits an iPhone can run two things at once, which Android folds have done since 2019.
Apple Pencil support was announced, then quietly dated to later in the year. It isn't there on 23 October.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
The camera is the whole story and it's a good one. A 48MP main with a real mechanical aperture, six laser-cut blades, opening to ƒ/1.48 and closing to ƒ/4. An iPhone can stop down now. That's optics rather than a Photographic Style, and it's the first genuinely new photographic capability in about three years.

- A20 Pro on a 2nm process. Six-core CPU, seven-core GPU, dual 16-core Neural Engine.
- Main camera
- 48MP with variable aperture, ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4, six laser-cut blades.
- Dynamic Island
- Smaller, and now holds three Live Activities at once.
- Camera Control
- Manual aperture, shutter speed and white balance, with a histogram.
- Colours
- Black, silver, glacier, burgundy.
- Price
- ₹1,64,900 and ₹1,79,900. Pre-orders 12 September, on sale 18 September.
There is no iPhone 18
Not this year. The standard iPhone 18, the 18e and a second-generation Air all move to spring 2027, which makes this the first September in the iPhone's history where the cheapest new model is a Pro.
For most markets that's a scheduling quirk. For India it's the single most expensive decision on the list, and I'll get to why.

Live Rewind is the one people will actually use. It's also the one that's going to start an argument about a watch that keeps a rolling buffer of the conversation around you.
What it costs in India
The Duo is ₹2,99,900 for 256GB. The 2TB is ₹4,49,900.
Apple lists the same phone at $1,999 in the US. Divide one by the other and Apple is charging ₹150 for every dollar of US list price. Do that sum on the iPhone 18 Pro, which is $1,199 and ₹1,64,900, and you get ₹138. Do it on last year's 17 Pro, which was $1,099 and ₹1,34,900, and you get ₹123.
That figure is not an exchange rate, and it's worth being straight about why. Indian prices include GST and import duty, American ones exclude sales tax, so the absolute number is carrying tax that the dollar price isn't. What the tax doesn't explain is why the number is different for each phone. Same country, same duty, same day, three different multipliers.
So the multiplier went from ₹123 to ₹138 on the Pro in twelve months, and the foldable lands at ₹150. The more the phone costs, the worse the Indian side of the sum gets. I've read the usual explanations, duty and the rupee and freight, and I'm not going to pretend I can separate those from margin while standing outside the building. What I can say is that the gap widened in the same year Apple opened more stores here and kept calling India a priority market, and that nobody on stage mentioned it.
The bottom of the lineup is where it stops being an abstraction. In September 2025 the cheapest new iPhone in India was the iPhone 17 at ₹82,900. In September 2026 there is no base model, so the cheapest new iPhone is the 18 Pro at ₹1,64,900. The entry price to a current-year iPhone in this country has almost exactly doubled in one year, and not because the phone got twice as good.
One more, because it's the one that made me laugh. The gap between the Duo and the 18 Pro Max here is ₹1,20,000. In the US the same gap is $700. You're paying the price of a whole iPhone 17 for the hinge.
I posted a shorter version of this last night and I'll stand behind it here. US gets the AI. India gets the EMI. Apple India is not even being subtle about the second half. The banner across the top of the Duo's own product page is an offer of six months of No Cost EMI and up to ₹7,000 cashback.
Then there's AppleCare
AppleCare+ on the Duo is ₹51,900 in India. Tick that box and the 256GB model comes to ₹3,51,800, inclusive of taxes, which Apple's own configurator will show you before you have finished choosing a colour.
₹51,900 to insure a phone. Last September a brand-new iPhone 17 cost ₹82,900 in this country, so the insurance on this one runs to well over half a whole phone from twelve months ago. I don't have a joke that improves on the arithmetic.
Should you buy one
Short version, because this is the only part most people need.

I haven't held one. I don't know whether the crease is a problem, and no keynote was ever going to tell me. Every foldable so far has looked fine at launch and had its real reviews at the eighteen-month mark, which is the number nobody has yet.
One thing worth knowing before you pre-order. A lot of apps will look wrong on that inner screen on day one, because Split View and a 7.6-inch canvas are both new and most developers have not tested for either.
